Applications
Theia's lenses can be used in many diverse applications from security to machine vision to science to web cams. Here are just a few examples of
- Entry doors and lobbies for security and monitoring
- Small rooms and holding cells
- Public spaces such as schools and universities
- Critical infrastructure like power stations and chemical plants
- Warehouse and big box retail stores
- Police and correctional facilities
- Border and perimeter security
- Science and web cams
- Machine vision applications from chocolates on a conveyor belt to solar panel inspection

Theia's optical distortion correction in the ultra wide SY125, SY110, and SL183lenses using Linear Optical Technology® allows the edges of the image to have high resolution. This gives the camera the ability to monitor both sides of the light rail car at the same time with much better resolution that a typical fisheye lens.

Video surveillance of a large parking lot. This image was taken from the top of a 4 story building. The entire lot can be monitored with Theia's ultra wide SY125lens. With the addition of a SL940 telephoto lens for watching the lot entrances, cars can be monitored as they move around the parking lot as well as collecting detailed imaging of the car and driver.
Theia's telephoto varifocal lenses (SL940, TL936, SL1250, and TL1250) are all well corrected for day/night operation. Set up for license plate reading (LPR or ANPR), the lens will remain in focus when switching from visible lighting to IR lighting. With the variable focal lengths it is possible to optimize the field of view for one lane or multiple lanes of traffic.

Multiple train and bus platform entrances can be monitored in a controlled access platform from a single camera so security personel can capture images of passengers entering and exiting the platform. Theia's wide angle lenses make good overview images and can be used in addition to a fixed telephoto like Theia's SL940, digital PTZ software allowing up to 16X zoom, or a dedicated PTZ camera.

A small office space or interrogation or holding room in a police station or prison can be seen using any of Theia's ultra wide lenses. These lenses offer greater than 90° vertical field of view in addition the ultra wide horizontal field of view to eliminate any blind spots in the room. The example office picture shows a 24'x28' office from 9 feet above the floor using Theia's ultra wide SY125 lens. The ultra wide SY110 lens has a slightly narrower field of view but still enough to cover the entire room.

Many aisles in a retail store can be monitored simutaneously, reducing the visible presence of video cameras and reducing the anxiety of customers who don't like to see too many video cameras

Theia's wide angle lenses can be placed very close to a bird's nest while still capturing a very wide angle using our patented Linear Optical Technology®. This allows a complete view of the action from a very restricted space. Theia's ultra wide SY125 and SY110lenses are popular for this type of wildlife monitoring application.

The Australian Institute for Marine Science (AIMS) has used Theia's ultra wide SY125 lens for monitoring coral reef health. They stationed a submersible NW of Western Australia in the Echuca Shoals to measure and record a natural CO2 seep. You can also see a video of the vehicle traveling through the ocean.

NASA's GLOPAC mission studies gasses, dust, and other atmospheric constituents from a Global Hawk unmanned vehicle platform. Theia's lens provides unparalleled coverage, even showing the curvature of the Earth from 60,000ft. This image is from one of the flights over Hurricane Karl in 2012.

NOAA is studying the melting of the north pole ice cap. Every year in winter, a weather station is installed at the north pole including cameras to watch the melting of the ice. In the summer, the ice under the camera installation melts and the entire apparatus sinks. Theia's lens was installed in the weather station in 2008 and survived temperatures down to -20°C

Agriculture, city structures, and general field conditions can be seen from low altitude UAV or helicopter monitoring. Theia's Linear Optical Technology® for ultra wide angle lenses removes the barrel distortion in the wide angle image keeping the ground flat for easier geospatial location. In this view, the field of view is 2.5 miles wide from 2500' above ground level.

Theia's ultra wide lenses can be used to monitor the entire underside of a vehicle from one camera. This is useful in under vehicle surveillance systems used in oil change garages and other maintenance areas when a record of vehicle condition is desired. With one camera at floor height using Theia's ultra wide SY125 lens, the entire underside of a vehicle can be recorded as well as the license plate on the front and back of the vehicle
